I had a chance to capture a full moon on March 26 , as the sky cleared out. I’ve shot a full moon before, albeit nearly not as impressive as this one.
The settings on the D800: Exposure 0.005 sec (1/200), Aperture f/11.0, Focal Length 200mm, ISO Speed 160. Shot with a Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II ED G lens. Thanks to the 36MP sensor, I was still able to get a decent image even after cropping heavily. The stars are NOT fake either; they were recovered with post processing the image in LR. I had to bring my exposure up by nearly 4-stops and bring down my highlights to about a value of -35 in LR4. Thanks to the great Dynamic Range on D800’s sensor, I was able to recover the stars and still keep the details!
